A new summer camp comedy pairing Johnny Knoxville with the producing team, including Seth Rogen, finally has a release date. Independent distributor Inaugural Entertainment will bring Tiny Fugitives to cinemas across North America.
Tiny Fugitives lands an official theatrical release date
Tiny Fugitives is releasing on September 18, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Inaugural Entertainment struck the North American rights deal with the filmmakers. It’s now one of the theatrical-first strategies for a mid-budget indie comedy at a time when many similar projects head straight to streaming platforms.
Michael Lewen directs from a script he co-wrote with Jacob Kaplan. The premise pits a gang of unruly 12-year-olds against an authority figure they never saw coming. The children cook up an elaborate plot to dodge adulthood entirely by refusing to leave their sleepaway camp. Standing squarely in their path is Bob, a volatile 50-year-old counsellor played by Knoxville, who wouldn’t let that happen.
Point Grey Pictures, the banner founded by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, shepherded the project as producers. James Weaver and Josh Fagen also hold producing credits for the company. The broader producing consortium includes Tango’s Tim Headington, Lia Buman, and Max Silva, alongside Public House Pictures’ Christopher Irion, Rob Hammersley, and Sonya Novak.
Lewen is coming back to adulting movies with serious comedy credentials. He previously worked as a producer on Judd Apatow’s The King of Staten Island and Trainwreck. Kevin Weisberg, founder and CEO of Inaugural Entertainment, framed the central conflict as the movie’s biggest selling point. “Johnny Knoxville going toe-to-toe with a pack of unhinged 12-year-olds is comedy gold,” he told The Hollywood Reporter.
“The Point Grey team and Michael Lewen have crafted a brilliantly nostalgic yet entirely fresh summer comedy. We are thrilled to partner with this spectacular creative team to bring Tiny Fugitives and its infectious, unruly spirit to nationwide audiences this September.”
No casting details for the young ensemble have surfaced yet. But with a locked release date just two months away, a trailer and full cast announcement of Tiny Fugitives will probably be announced soon.
