Scott Cooper to Helm Granite Mountain Hotshots Film

Scott Cooper (Crazy Heart, Out of the Furnace) has plans to tell the story of the “Granite Mountain Hotshots,” a firefighter crew that lost 19 men stopping Arizona’s Yarnell Hill wildfire in 2013. Deadline reports that di Bonaventura Pictures is developing the project with Ken Nolan (Black Hawk Down) set to provide the screenplay.

Brendan McDonough, the sole survivor of the Hotshots, and Amanda Marsh, the widow of the team’s leader, Eric Marsh, are among those being consulted for the project, which aims to pay tribute to the men who gave their lives to defend against a blaze that claimed more firefighter lives than any since 9/11.

Lorenzo di Bonaventura will produce alongside Mike Menchel and Dawn Ostroff and Jeremy Steckler of Conde Nast Entertainment. Erick Howsam will executive produce.

Cooper is currently shooting the Whitey Bulger biopic, Black Mass, with Johnny Depp in the lead.
