Jon Watts to Helm New Fantastic Four at Marvel Studios!

After acquiring back the rights to the comic publisher’s first family with Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox, Kevin Feige officially announced during the Disney Investors Day presentation that a new Fantastic Four movie is officially in the works with Tom Holland Spider-Man director Jon Watts at the helm!

The most recent adaptation of Fantastic Four debuted in 2015, directed by Josh Trank and written by Trank, Simon Kinberg, and Jeremy Slater. The critically-maligned reboot, starring Michael B. Jordan, Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Jamie Bell, Toby Kebbell, Tim Blake Nelson, and Reg E. Cathey, was a flop at the box office, earning $167.9 against a production budget of $155 million. There have also been accusations of issues behind-the-scenes during filming.

Fantastic Four was previously adapted into film in Tim Story’s 2005 movie starring Ioan Gruffudd, Jessica Alba, Chris Evans, Michael Chiklis, and Julian McMahon. A follow-up, titled Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer, premiered in 2007.

The Fantastic Four Marvel comic book series created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby debuted in 1961 and was the first superhero team title produced by Marvel Comics.
