Robert De Niro’s The War With Grandpa Dethrones Tenet at the Box Office

After weeks at the top of the box office, Deadline reports that Christopher Nolan’s Tenet has been dethroned by none other than the Robert De Niro comedy The War with Grandpa. The PG-rated family comedy, which was originally scheduled for February 2018, and was released on some 2,250 screens, earned $3.6M in the U.S., enough to best Tenet’s $2.1M take.

Worldwide, Nolan’s epic time travel flick has collected another $9.8M for a running WW total of $323.3M. In related news, the film now stands as Nolan’s biggest Imax performer in Japan, and WB’s 2nd best IMAX release there, behind only Gravity.

Coming in at third was the popular Halloween comedy Hocus Pocus, which pulled in $1.1M in its second week of release to bring its domestic total (including original 1993 receipts) to $48.3M.

The New Mutants landed at No. 3 with $685K while Unhinged edged out the re-release of Pixar’s Coco with $660K to the latter’s $603K.
