Screenwriter F. Scott Frazier Set for Gears of War Movie

According to The Wrap, Universal’s long in development Gears of War movie has tapped xXx: Return of Xander Cage and Collide writer F. Scott Frazier to pen the screenplay. The studio previously brought in Avatar sequel writer Shane Salerno to adapt the popular video game in May of last year. Whether a new script will be penned or simply rewrites are being conducted remains to be seen.

In any event, the Gears of War movie is still ages away from reaching the big screen, despite getting the green light way back in 2016. Dylan Clark (Planet of the Apes) is still set as producer alongside Gears co-creator Rod Fergusson. Scott Stuber (Ted) will executive produce.

The iconic video game launched its first version back in 2006 and lets you play as a member of the Delta Squad as they try to save the few remaining humans on the planet Sera from the Locust Horde. The series has continued to evolve and expand since then with the release of five games and a handful of spin-offs. Fans won’t have to wait for the film to hit the big screen before delving into the apocalyptic Gears of War universe again. Another video game sequel, titled Gears 5, is set to arrive sometime in 2019.
