A Resident Evil movie is getting a manga adaptation, but the upcoming release may disappoint some fans. Scheduled to go on sale later this year, the manga will arrive around the same time as the live-action Resident Evil reboot starring Austin Abrams.
What is the new Resident Evil movie manga adaptation?
Resident Evil: Death Island is the film being adapted into a manga. Directed by Eiichirō Hasumi, the Japanese animated action-horror flick follows franchise-favorite heroes, Chris Redfield, Leon S. Kennedy, Jill Valentine, Claire Redfield, and Rebecca Chambers as they confront the deadliest outbreak in Alcatraz Island. The movie premiered in Singapore on June 22, 2023, before making its way to Japan on July 7, 2023. It also received theatrical releases in Taiwan, Malaysia and Greece, before becoming available digitally in other regions.
That said, the manga is illustrated by acclaimed artist Zino and was created in collaboration with Capcom and the Death Island Film Partners. The volume is said to “bring cinematic scale to manga panels” while blending “pulse-pounding action with atmospheric dread.” The upcoming manga will expand the franchise’s universe with “heart-stopping encounters, explosive set pieces, and character-driven drama.” It is intended to appeal to both seasoned fans of the video game series and newcomers to the biopunk horror manga genre.
The official synopsis of the Resident Evil: Death Island manga reads, “A deadly outbreak on Alcatraz Island draws DSO agent Leon S. Kennedy into a kidnapping case that unravels into a global biohazard conspiracy. As Chris Redfield uncovers a related threat in San Francisco, the world’s most iconic survivors are pulled together for a desperate fight against a mutating nightmare.”
Resident Evil: Death Island goes on sale on September 29, 2026. It is available for preorder through Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Books-A-Million, and Forbidden Planet for readers in the UK and Europe.
