Hitting theaters this Friday, Jumping the Broom takes a look at some of the pitfalls, both funny and serious, of planning a modern wedding.
Set up as a comedy of manners, the film stars Paula Patton and Laz Alonso as a couple planning their ceremony, bringing his working class family to meet her wealthy relatives at their Martha’s Vineyard estate. Immediately butting heads are the two matriarchs, played by Angela Bassett (the mother of the bride) and Loretta Devine (the mother of the groom), but the waves of dissent quickly make their way through every last relative, threatening to destroy the marriage before it can even happen.
