Blood Free Ending Explained & Ep 10 Spoilers: Han Hyo-Joo, Ju Ji-Hoon Starrer Hints at Season 2

The popular K-drama Blood Free aired its final episode 10 on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at 4 p.m. KST on Disney Plus. The final episode documented an interesting ending for BF Group CEO Yoon Ja-Yoo (Han Hyo-Joo), bodyguard Woo Chae-Woon (Ju Ji-Hoon), and the rest of the characters in the storyline. After an attack that left Ja-Yoo and Chae-Woon gravely injured, many questions were left unanswered, including how the two managed to survive. From the ending of the series, it looks like the drama will move forward with a second season.

Blood Free follows the story of CEO Yoon Ja-Yoo of the biotechnology lab BF Group, who dominates the genetically engineered cultured meat market. Her dreams of breaking the human-animal food chain and creating a dominant species face hurdles when opposition emerges from elite groups wanting to take over the company. She eventually hires soldier-turned-bodyguard Woo Chae-Woon to help her with the mission.

Blood Free ending: Han Hyo-Joo, Ju Ji-Hoon’s potential survival hints at Season 2

The final Blood Free episode 10 saw a final showdown between Prime Minister Seon Woo-Jae and BF Group CEO Yoon Ja-Yoo’s missions. The former ordered a search and seizure of the company while also plotting his revenge against his father and DORSON Chairman, Seon Woo-Geun. Meanwhile, Ja-Yoo tracked down killer Park Sang-Min only to fall prey to an attack by Woo-Geun and a bigger issue at BF Group. Woo Chae-Woon returned from Dubai after getting significant information about terrorist Kir, and he was ready to protect Ja-Yoo one last time.

Did Yoon Ja-Yoo track killer Park Sang-Min?

The episode began with Ja-Yoo showing the lab to her chosen organ transplant doctors. The BF Group team asked them to digitalize their expertise into their system so that they could then operate on Ja-Yoo using the company’s technology. Using Sang-Min’s real name, Jin Sun-Wan, and his identification card, Ja-Yoo asked the killer to meet her if he wanted to save himself from DARSON’s attack. After fighting off DARSON and Son Woo-Geun’s men, Sang-Min asked Ja-Yoo to meet him at a secret location.

Ja-Yoo went to meet him but found him gravely injured. Sang-Min asked Ja-Yoo to take him to the company and save his life. Meanwhile, two of Woo-Geun’s men followed them, and so did Ja-Yoo’s close friend and BF Group co-founder, On San. Before the latter could save Ja-Yoo, the two men pushed their car from the top of the building, gravely injuring both Ja-Yoo and Sang-Min. They were both taken to BF Group, where the doctors began to operate on Ja-Yoo and replace all of her organs with cultured organs.

Ja-Yoo’s experiment began sooner than she’d imagined.

Did Seon Woo-Jae succeed in his BF Group search and seizure order?

Prime Minister Seon Woo-Jae realized that both Ja-Yoo and Sang-Min were taken to the BF Group lab. He ordered the search and seizure of BF Group to commence. Just as On San managed to restrict the order by closing off the basement using their technology, it failed. Woo-Jae’s aides managed to hack into BF Group’s system, disabling and dismantling their technology. Because of this, the basement opened its doors, and Woo-Jae’s order resumed.

Furthermore, Woo-Geun sent in a few armed men to battle Ja-Yoo and take over BF Group. Bodyguard Woo Chae-Woon arrived just in time to protect Ja-Yoo. He took on the armed men alone. Despite getting injured several times, he continued to fight them and even killed a few. However, he soon realized that a few other men had blackmailed Seo-Hui into opening the lab.

The armed men entered the lab and stopped Ja-Yoo’s surgery. They asked Chae-Woon to show them where the organs were kept. However, the team, including On San, Seo-Hui, and Hong Sae-Ip, battled the rest of the men. Eventually, the fight ended with Chae-Woon collapsing on the floor and fighting for his life.

Did Seon Woo-Jae succeed in seeking revenge against his father Woo-Geun?

After the attack on BF Group, Woo-Jae participated in an interview with a news channel. He claimed that Chae-Woon accused Woo-Geun of being the mastermind of the Azoran bomb blast. Woo-Jae further claimed that Chae-Woon only did so because he suffered from PTSD when he witnessed the bomb blast. Although Woo-Jae accused BF Group of making Chae-Woon seem innocent, he also hinted at his father Woo-Geun’s involvement in the terror attack.

Woo-Jae noted how people believed Woo-Geun to be the mastermind. Furthermore, he said how people informed him that his father paid the terrorist to frame an innocent individual as the mastermind. He asked the citizens not to blindly trust Woo-Geun but to investigate, and he claimed to have full faith in his father. However, after a reporter played a recording between Woo-Geun and Jung Hae-Dun, the DARSON Chairman’s true colors were revealed.

Because Woo-Jae claimed to believe his father, the recording only seemed to show that the Prime Minister betrayed his own son’s trust. Woo-Geun was eventually caught for plotting against BF Group. As a consequence, Woo-Jae stepped down from his position as Prime Minister and became DORSON’s new Chairman, sending his father to prison.

Finally, DORSON Chairman Seon Woo-Jae succeeded in retrieving BF Group’s hard drives from the search and seizure. However, he remained doubtful about Yoon Ja-Yoo’s death. Woo-Jae used the hackers as text subjects to experiment with using the data. This also teases the need for a further storyline to see if he succeeds in this endeavor.

What happened to Jung Hae-Dun?

Jung Hae-Dun suffered from memory loss after the accident. She began visiting a psychiatrist, all while being aware that BF Group had been keeping an eye on her. On San followed her to the hospital and asked her to live her life comfortably. He further confessed that BF Group would not follow her anymore. In a conversation with the doctor, Hae-Dun expressed wanting to recall her memories. She said, “Perhaps I lived such an ordinary life that I could’ve been boring.” This only indicated that the next time around, Hae-Dun would have a more important role to play in the storyline.

Are Yoon Ja-Yoo, Woo Chae-Woon alive?

While defending BF Group in front of the prosecution, On San expressed that they only acted in self-defense while killing the armed men. On San further expressed that Ja-Yoo had nothing to do with this attack, as she is the CEO of the company. The scene cut to a flashback when the BF team worked together to kill the armed men. The fight ended with a gravely injured Chae-Woon and Ja-Yoo’s surgery being paused. In the present, On San hinted at Ja-Yoo being alive while speaking to the prosecution but having no knowledge of the whereabouts of Chae-Woon.

At the end of the episode, an unconscious Chae-Woon woke up somewhere in the BF lab. Meanwhile, only Ja-Yoo’s voice could be heard. The CEO wondered where she was. This indicates that the two made it out alive and that Ja-Yoo’s surgery using cultured organs was a success. However, with the data gone and the two alive, the storyline only hints at a potential second season. Will the two fight back to get the data from Woo-Jae? Will Woo-Jae succeed in his experiment and take over BF Group? What bigger role will Jung Hae-Dun play? Only the next season of this show may provide the answers to these and more questions.

Stay tuned for more updates. Meanwhile, all episodes of Blood Free are available on Disney Plus.
