Boys Be Brave Episodes 1 & 2 Recap: Did Kim Sung-Hyun Confess His Love to Nam Shi-An?

The new Korean BL drama Boys Be Brave aired episodes 1 and 2 on Thursday on Heavenly. Starring Kim Sung-Hyun and Nam Shi-An, it is a romance comedy series revolving around the lead characters with different personalities.

Kim Sung-Hyun plays Kim Jin-Woo, an academic genius who believes in setting schedules and rules rather than finding a date. His life turns upside down when a boy from his past named Jung Ki-Sub (Nam Shi-An) forcefully becomes his roommate.

Boys Be Brave episode 1 begins with Jin-Woo panicking when he learns Ki-Sub has moved into his house. He yells at Ki-Sub and asks him to leave. His panic is caused by his secret crush on Ki-Sub.

Boys Be Brave episode 1 spoilers: Nam Shi-An knows that Kim Sung-Hyun likes him

The first episode of Boys Be Brave K-drama introduces Kim Jin-Woo (Kim Sung-Hyun) as a disciplined student. On the other hand, Jung Ki-Sub (Nam Shi-An) is a laid-back person who finds it difficult to say no. Hence, he has always dated multiple people because he couldn’t refuse when they asked him out.

Due to this, Jin-Woo believes Ki-Sub is not a nice person to be friends with. Meanwhile, Ki-Sub believes they are friends and moves into his house without permission. Jin-Woo becomes furious and asks him to leave. He gives him a deadline of 10 p.m., but he avoids bumping into Ki-Sub all day.

Instead of moving out, Ki-Sub spends the day with his best friend, Choi Balgeum (Jung Yeo-Joon). The latter asks him if he will stay at Jin-Woo’s place even after he disapproves. Ki-Sub says, “The saying goes, ‘friends’ disputes never last long.” Balgeum remarks on why Jin-Woo wants to be friends with an “ignorant kid” like Ki-Sub. He responds, “Actually, he likes me.”

Later, Ki-Sub and Jin-Woo end up at the same place, looking at a boy asking out a girl on a date. Jin-Woo imagines him in a spotlight with Ki-Sub whispering that he likes him. Towards the end, Jin-Woo fails to stop Ki-Sub from entering his house. The latter continues to convince Jin-Woo to let him stay at his place. Finally, Ki-Sub says, “I know you like me.” Jin-Woo looks shocked and asks how he knows that. In response, Ki-Sub mentions that he can tell from Jin-Woo’s face.

Boys Be Brave episode 2 recap & spoilers: Nam Shi-An wants Kim Sung-Hyun to ask him out on a date

Boys Be Brave episode 2 focuses on Ki-Sub’s (Nam Shi-An) personality. He cannot say no and, hence, agrees to do anything. A flashback shows Ki-Sub and Jin-Woo’s encounter when the former finds the other interesting. Ki-Sub was impressed with Jin-Woo’s ability to say no. Also, he knew that Jin-Woo liked him because of the way he looked at Ki-Sub. However, Ki-Sub always wondered why Jin-Woo never asked him out.

Coming back to the present, Ki-Sub asks Jin-Woo why he never asked him out. Furious and frustrated, Jin-Woo responds, “I will never ask out someone like you because you’re not my type.” He further warms Ki-Sub to leave his place early in the morning. At night, Jin-Woo struggles to sleep because of his conversation with Ki-Sub.

The next day, Ki-Sub seeks Choi Balgeum’s help to understand Jin-Woo’s type. Later, he tries to find out more at the house and finds Jin-Woo’s bucket list. The latter gets mad at Ki-Sub and demands his leave. After an argument, Ki-Sub makes a contract, stating that Jin-Woo will find Ki-Sub is his type in a week. If not, then Ki-Sub will leave the house.

Towards episode 2 ending, both go to their rooms and find their heart racing for each other. Meanwhile, a boy named Ji In-Ho (Ahn Se-Min) returns to Choi Balgeum’s life, leaving him speechless.

Boys Be Brave will return next week on Thursday, May 2, 2024, with two new episodes on Heavenly. The Korean BL drama also streams on Viki.
