The much-awaited K-drama Blood Free aired episode 2 on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, at 4 p.m. KST on Disney Plus. The series also goes by the name Dominant Species and follows the story of CEO Yoon Ja-Yoo (Han Hyo-Joo). Her company, BF Group, dominates the genetically engineered cultured meat market. When she faces opposition from both inside and outside the company, she hires Woo Chae-Woon (Ju Ji-Hoon) to be a bodyguard.

Episode 2 of Blood Free saw CEO Yoon Ja-Yoo investigate more into Citizen X, the ransomware organization that hacked all the computer systems in the lab. She also struck a deal with Prime Minister Seon Woo-Jae to find the culprits. However, with the help of her newly appointed bodyguard Woo Chae-Woon, he discovered that someone had pretended to be Citizen K to attack her lab systems. She narrowed it down to people she was close with and who knew her very well. Ja-Yoo realized it could have been an inside job and suspected her team members.

Blood Free episode 2: Han Hyo-Joo suspects her team of threatening her

The latest episode of Blood Free picked up from events of the previous episode when Woo Chae-Woon arrived at the BF Group. To be appointed as Yoon Ja-Yoo’s bodyguard, he had to undergo several gruesome tests that used artificial intelligence. During his session with On San, they discussed Chae-Woon’s job at the Naval Intelligence Command (NIC).

Meanwhile, Chae-Woon knew On San avoided media appearances and never attended a BF Group event despite being the research director. On San confronted Chae-Woon about quitting the military and leaving the Sanghwa Group. Chae-Woon expressed that Ja-Yoo needed him more as she had received multiple death threats in the past. The two discussed Chae-Woon’s salary after which he left for his house. Meanwhile, researcher Hong Sae-Ip suspiciously logged out for the day.

As the team dealt with Citizen X’s hacking, they contemplated shutting the lab a few more days. On San informed Ja-Yoo of Chae-Woon’s arrival and had mixed reactions about the latter being her bodyguard. Jung Hae-Dun informed Ja-Yoo of Prime Minister Seon Woo-Jae wanting to meet her about rumors surrounding the company’s culture fluid. Ja-Yoo agreed to meet him. Moreover, she discovered gangs threatening to kill her because she attacked the animal meat-selling industry.

Back at home, Chae-Woon was attacked by a couple of men. They ordered him to bring Ja-Yoo if he wanted his family safe abroad. However, he attacked them smartly. It turned out to be Ja-Yoo testing his loyalty. Chae-Woon eventually met her and tried to convince her to trust him. He convinced her to believe that his presence at the event, the site of the accident, and his work with the NIC were all coincidental.

When Ja-Yoo enquired Chae-Woon about Citizen X, he revealed that no one had been able to catch hold of the culprits behind the ransomware organization. Following his advice, she paid Citizen X the ransom money and had her files restored. She now wanted to track the exchanges the culprits would make through Bitcoin. He also advised they report the incident, but she was concerned about people believing the controversial rumors.

At night, Ja-Yoo met with Prime Minister Seon Woo-Jae, requesting Interpol help and tracking the Bitcoin exchanges to find who was behind Citizen X. Ja-Yoo coerced Woo-Jae into a deal. If they catch the culprit, Woo-Jae will become the first person to find people behind Citizen X.

Meanwhile, Woo-Jae asked her to donate money to the government and give people proof that BF Group’s cultured fluid was safe. Ja-Yoo instead chose to provide proof of their meat’s safety so that she could keep the fluid ingredients a secret.

On her way back, Ja-Yoo found out about the accident of researcher Hong Sae-Ip. She soon realized that the threat was coming from someone inside the company, as everything pointed to the lab. At home, Chae-Woon tracked the CCTV camera footage installed in his outfit. He realized that Citizen X’s message this time around didn’t use any Russian symbols like it did when it targeted NIC in the past. He informed Ja-Yoo of this.

Blood Free episode 2 then saw Ja-Yoo realizing that someone had impersonated Citizen X to threaten her. She felt that the only people who could do that would be someone who knew her and the lab well. At the end of the episode, Ja-Yoo suspected her team members of going all the way to hide their identity. She reflected on her interactions with the team and thought it could be any one of her close associates. Her teammates include On San, Jung Hae-Dun, Seo-Hee, Kim Shin-Gu, and Hong Sae-Ip.
