The Midnight Studio Episode 4 Recap: Did Joo Won Make a Mistake in Kwon Na-Ra’s Grandmother’s Case?

The Midnight Studio episode 4 aired on ENA on Tuesday, March 19, 2024. Starring Joo Won as Seo Ki-Joo and Kwon Na-Ra as Han Bom, the K-drama currently revolves around ghost photographer Ki-Joo dealing with the death of Han Bom’s grandmother.

In episode 3, lawyer Han Bom learns the truth about Ki-Joo and why he wants her to join his team. After she declines his offer, the photographer decides not to meddle in her business. But fate brings them together again when Han Bom’s grandmother passes away and enters the photo studio.

Episode 4 deals with Ki-Joo going above and beyond to give Han Bom and her grandmother a happy last memory. But something goes wrong, and it gives the lawyer the ability to see ghosts. It is unclear if the side-effect has occurred due to Ki-Joo’s mistake or whether she is an exception.

The Midnight Studio episode 4 spoilers: Why did Kwon Na-Ra’s grandmother refuse to meet her?

The Midnight Studio episode 4 begins with devastated Han Bom (Kwon Na-Ra) asking Ki-Joo (Joo Won) if her grandmother’s ghost has visited him. He lies to her as per her grandmother’s request. The elderly lady tells Ki-Joo that her final wish is to collect the money she has given as cash gifts to friends and relatives during their time of need. 

Meanwhile, Han Bom soon finds out that her grandmother has visited the photo studio. She barges into the place and asks why she doesn’t want to see her granddaughter. Filled with grief, Han Bom picks dresses for their final picture. But her grandmother refuses to show herself to her. Going against the rules, Ki-Joo tries to convince the deceased spirit to share her last memory with Han Bom. He states that she should say goodbye before leaving her loved ones for good so that she doesn’t have any regrets. He says, “There’s nothing they can do but wait. You should at least let them say goodbye.” 

In response, she says, “That’s a burden for the living.” Later, she explains to Ki-Joo that Han Bom has seen her parents die in front of her eyes in a car accident.Therefore, during her lifetime, she went to parties and funerals to give cash gifts so that when she died, Han Bom was not left alone. Also, she doesn’t want Han Bom to see her in the state of a dead person, as it may be too much for her granddaughter.

Ki-Joo, however, manages to reunite Han Bom and her grandmother on the latter’s final day on earth. 

The Midnight Studio episode 4 ending: Kwon Na-Ra can now see ghosts

Towards The Midnight Studio episode 4 ending, Kwon Na-Ra’s Han Bom bids farewell to her grandmother, and Ki-Joo (Joo Won) captures their final moment.

The next morning, the lead characters meet each other in front of their house building. She mentions that the landlady of his apartment has now changed and that she will receive his rent from that month. While they share friendly moments, Han Bom drops a bomb.

She suddenly asks, “By the way, Mr. Seo, when will I stop seeing ghosts?” and she looks at assistant manager Ko. The latter is the ghost employee of the photo studio. Han Bom further explains the ghosts she can see, leaving Ki-Joo in shock.

In the next episode, Joo Won’s character will try to look for reasons why Han Bom has begun to see ghosts.
