Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 is one of the most anticipated movies of the year, surrounded by numerous rumors and speculation since the conclusion of the first installment. Recently, filmmaker Nelson dropped a significant hint about Jailer 2.
Jailer was officially announced in February 2022 under the tentative title Thalaivar 169, marking Rajini’s 169th film. It took almost one and a half years for the movie to premiere in theaters on August 10, 2023. Following its theatrical run, the film received positive reviews and secured the spot of the second highest-grossing Tamil film of all time.
Helmed by Nelson Dilipkumar, the film follows the story of a retired Jailer who wants to save his son from the gangster Varman, who also smuggles idols. Later, when he discovers that his son is also involved in smuggling, he gives him one chance to surrender, but he refuses. However, the jailer’s friend’s shooter shoots him, leading to his death.
Alongside Rajinikanth, the film cast includes Vinayakan, Ramya Krishnan, Vasanth Ravi, Yogi Babu, and others. Additionally, Mohanlal, Shiva Rajkumar, and Jackie Shroff also played cameos portraying the role of the jailer’s friend. Nelson addresses Jailer 2 rumors
Director Nelson addressed the ongoing rumors, stating, “Everything is still in talks. Nothing has been confirmed yet. I cannot reveal anything at the moment because I am just an employee. The announcement has to come from the boss. Anyway, we will confirm everything in a month or two.”
However, this anticipated statement sparked a buzz among the audience. Furthermore, he confirmed that the makers would disclose some prominent information in the upcoming months, leading to its sequel.
According to Sacnilk, Jailer gathered around $41.7 million in India’s net collection. Additionally, Jailer has grossed around $72.5 million worldwide, marking it as an all-time-blockbuster film. Nevertheless, it remains to be seen when the makers will unveil its sequel and whether the second installment will also be able to break the collection records.
