Dev Patel, Sobhita Dhulipala’s Monkey Man Banned in India?

In recent weeks, the buzz surrounding Dev Patel’s latest action-packed movie, Monkey Man, has been relentless. The film’s fate in India has been a topic of intense speculation, with rumors circulating about its alleged ban due to several reasons. However, fresh developments have come up, shedding light on the situation and offering hope to eager fans awaiting its release.

When will Dev Patel, Sobhita Dhulipala’s Monkey Man release in India?

Earlier reports suggested Monkey Man is slated for release on April 19, 2024. However, it got rescheduled for April 26, 2024, pending clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). Despite this, uncertainties loomed over its fate as concerns were raised regarding its portrayal of violence and religious themes.

Contrary to initial rumors, a source close to the matter debunked claims of a ban. It stated, “CBFC’s Examining Committee has not even seen the film.” The source further clarified, “The Universal Pictures India team applied for a certificate well in advance. But due to unavoidable delays, including public holidays, the process has been prolonged.”

Earlier, concerns about the film’s content, particularly its violence and potential to offend religious sentiments, were raised. However, these apprehensions are part of the standard censorship process. Despite the setbacks, there remains optimism regarding Monkey Man’s eventual release. The local team is awaiting the censor certificate to initiate a promotional campaign lasting 7 to 10 days before bringing the film to theaters. This means the previously anticipated release date of April 26 is no longer feasible, with a release in May now on the horizon.

Monkey Man narrates the tale of a young man seeking justice against corrupt leaders responsible for his mother’s death. Alongside Dev Patel, the film features an ensemble cast including Sobhita Dhulipala, Sikandar Kher, Sharlto Copley, and Vipin Sharma. Initially slated for a Netflix premiere, acclaimed director Jordan Peele later took up the film, leading to a worldwide theatrical release.

Overall, while rumors may have suggested otherwise, Monkey Man’s release in Indian theaters is eagerly awaited.
