Gumraah Ending Explained & Spoilers: How Did Aditya Roy Kapur’s Movie end?

Gumraah is a 2023 Indian Hindi-language action thriller film that represents a cinematic landmark in storytelling. It is directed by Vardhan Ketkar and produced by the combined efforts of T-Series Films and Murad Khetani’s Cine1 Studios. Gumraah stars Aditya Roy Kapur in a dual role. Accompanying him are Mrunal Thakur and Ronit Roy, adding depth to the narrative.

Gumraah: Who was Akash Sardana?

The film opens with a man clad in a yellow raincoat breaking into a house. This leads to a deadly confrontation that results in the resident’s murder. The killer meticulously destroys potential evidence before disappearing into the night. The following day, the victim is identified as Akash Sardana, and a complex investigation ensues. Leading the inquiry is Shivani Mathur, a young, insightful police officer. She learns that Akash had withdrawn a substantial sum of 2 million from his family’s account. However, the amount goes missing. A neighbor’s accidental capture of the murderer’s image in a selfie provides a critical lead.

Shivani’s superior, ACP Dhiren Yadav, quickly identifies the suspect as Arjun Sehgal. For Yadav, the case presents a personal opportunity for revenge. As Shivani explores Arjun’s background, police arrest him, bolstered by their evidence. Despite Arjun’s weak alibi, Yadav anticipates a swift resolution to the case.

However, the plot thickens dramatically when Sooraj, another man strikingly resembling Arjun, is arrested on unrelated charges. Yadav’s legal advisor warns of the fragility of their court case, giving them only 48 hours to consolidate their evidence against the suspects. Intriguingly, both Arjun and Sooraj share identical injuries, complicating the investigation.

The narrative then delves into the pasts of Arjun and Sooraj. Arjun is portrayed as a successful engineer romantically involved with Janhvi, while Sooraj is shown as a minor criminal skilled in deception and petty cons alongside his partner, Chaddi. Sooraj’s underworld dealings come back to haunt him when a mob boss, deceived by him, kidnaps Chaddi, demanding 2 million as retribution. Desperate, Sooraj’s last resort is gambling, which fails him.

In an unexpected twist, DNA evidence from the crime scene implicates both Arjun and Sooraj, revealing them as identical twins separated by their parents’ bitter divorce. While Arjun lacked an emotional connection with their mother, Sooraj felt the opposite. Post-divorce, their father, a lawyer, won custody and kept them away from their mother, who tragically died by suicide. The embittered and estranged brothers have since refused to acknowledge each other.

Shivani leans towards suspecting Sooraj due to his criminal background and unconvincing alibi. However, she uncovers Yadav’s deep-seated grudge against Arjun, stemming from an incident where Arjun helped Yadav’s daughter elope, thwarting Yadav’s legal attempts to stop him. This discovery leads to a covert battle between Shivani and Yadav, each manipulating evidence to protect their respective suspects.

Despite the court’s conviction that one of the twins is guilty, their solid alibis prevent a decisive verdict. The plot takes another turn when Shivani investigates Janhvi’s disappearance. Discovering that Janhvi planned to marry Akash after separating from Arjun, Shivani’s theory of a financial motive is challenged.

Gumraah ending: Who killed Akash Sardana?

Arjun later confesses to confronting Akash about his past with Janhvi. Akash admits to raping Janhvi, leading to her accidental death, and bribing the police to cover up the incident. In a rage, Arjun murders Akash and escapes.

Sooraj reveals that he tampered with the crime scene to protect Arjun, whom he believed was innocent of the murder. In a poignant conclusion, Arjun hands over the keys to his home to Sooraj, symbolizing their reconciliation and healing old wounds.
