Malang Ending Explained & Spoilers: How Did Aditya Roy Kapur’s Movie End?

Directed by Mohit Suri, Malang is an Indian Hindi-language action thriller film released in 2020. The film is produced by T-Series alongside Luv Films and Northern Lights Entertainment. The main cast includes Aditya Roy Kapur, Disha Patani, Anil Kapoor, and Kunal Khemu. Malang is set against the picturesque backdrop of Goa, with primary shooting done there and the rest in Mauritius.

Why did Advait call Agashe?

The film opens with Advait Thakur, played by Aditya Roy Kapur, who is a released convict. He calls Inspector Anjaney Agashe, portrayed by Anil Kapoor, to inform him about the upcoming murder of a police officer. Inspector Agashe is a harsh, drug-abusing cop known for eliminating criminals by staging their deaths as police encounters.

He chose this path after his daughter, Vaani, was killed during a raid conducted by him in a nightclub. Agashe’s colleague, Michael Rodrigues, played by Kunal Khemu, is a contrasting character as a cop who abides by the rules. However, Michael’s personal life is in turmoil, as his wife, Teresa, is having an affair.

The story unfolds with the brutal murder of Michael’s friend and co-worker, Victor. At the crime scene, Agashe and Michael’s conflicting approaches to justice are seen. While Agashe seeks the murderer’s death, Michael seeks lawful imprisonment. The suspicion quickly falls on Advait as the orchestrator of Victor’s death. Michael’s investigation leads him to suspect Jessie, a drug-addicted prostitute and friend of Advait, who appears to be assisting in the murders.

Where did Advait meet Sara?

The narrative then takes the audience into the past, revealing the backstory of Advait, a once cheerful and carefree individual. He falls in love with Sara Nambiar, played by Disha Patani, at a rave party in Goa. Their whirlwind romance is marked by travel and partying but takes a turn when Sara becomes pregnant.

Initially planning to abort the child, Sara changes her mind after witnessing Agashe’s breakdown over his daughter’s death in a shootout at a rave party they attended. This event also marks the beginning of Agashe’s descent into alcoholism and drug addiction. Fearful of commitment, Advait leaves Sara to travel north. Sara takes refuge with Jessie after Advait leaves her.

Why did Michael visit Jessie?

It is then revealed that five years ago, Michael, struggling with his own insecurities and about to marry his girlfriend, Teresa, had sought out Jessie to lose his virginity but instead found Sara. Mistaking Sara for Jessie, he tries forcing himself on her. Advait returns at this crucial juncture and witnesses Michael strangling Sara. He immediately calls the cop when Nitin, Deven, and Victor arrive. The situation escalates when corrupt police officers, intending to cover up Michael’s scandal, frame Advait and Sara for drug peddling. They inject a lethal drug into the couple before throwing Sara off a bridge and imprisoning Advait.

Advait’s motive for the murders is then revealed – it is a revenge plot for Sara’s death. However, in a dramatic twist, it is disclosed that Sara was actually saved by Jessie and had been alive all along, plotting with Advait. In the climax, Michael, having lost his sanity, attempts to kill Teresa but is instead killed by Sara.

Malang ending: Was Agashe able to catch Advait?

The climax of Malang unfolds with a startling revelation of Michael’s crimes, leading Inspector Agashe to reluctantly release Advait due to insufficient evidence. Amidst this, Teresa, Michael’s wife, delivers a false testimony to protect Sara, thus ensuring her safety. The film reaches its resolution as Advait and Sara, deeply scarred yet united by their ordeal, begin a new chapter in their lives.

The story concludes on yet another mysterious note, with Agashe receiving a mysterious phone call about an impending murder. This phone call mirrors the call from Advait at the film’s start. This ending leaves the audience pondering the continuous cycle of vengeance and justice in a world of moral ambiguities.
