Aankh Micholi revolves around the amusing escapades of two mismatched families during an Indian wedding. The film boasts a stellar ensemble cast, including Paresh Rawal, Sharman Joshi, Abhishek Banerjee, Divya Dutta, and Vijay Varma, along with the talented Mrunal Thakur and Abhimanyu Dassani.

The film introduces the Singh family, a unique clan where each member has a peculiar medical condition. However, there is no elaborate backstory to explain these conditions. The father, played by Paresh Rawal, has memory issues, Yuvraj (Sharman Joshi) is the elder brother with hearing impairments, and Batti, (Abhishek Banerjee) the younger brother stammers. Yuvraj’s wife (Divya Dutta) frequently uses incorrect proverbs, and Paro (Mrunal Thakur) suffers from night blindness.

The Singhs are on a mission to find a suitable match for Paro. Their quest takes an unexpected turn when they welcome an NRI family. The potential groom, Rohit (Abhimanyu Dassani), takes an instant liking to Paro. As fate would have it, he shares a secret of his own.

Mrunal Thakur shares her experience of working on her first comedy film

Mrunal Thakur is known for her compelling performances in films like Love Sonia, Super 30, Batla House, and Sita Raman. She steps into the realm of comedy with this film.

The 31-year-old actress expressed her enthusiasm for exploring more comedy roles, especially after receiving praise from director Umesh Shukla for her comic timing in Aankh Micholi. Thakur revealed her preference for clean comedy and her dislike for humor that involves insulting people based on their physical appearance. She humorously mentioned her tendency to respond in unexpected ways to insults.

Thakur also admitted that she doesn’t always grasp certain types of dark humor or politically satirical jokes. In these situations, she candidly referred to herself as a tubelight and mentioned her inclination toward light-hearted comedy. She often seeks clarification from others when it comes to political satire, as she sometimes struggles to see how it qualifies as comedy.

Mrunal Thakur on working with Paresh Rawal

In a recent interview with PTI, Thakur shared her experience of working with the comedy legend, Paresh Rawal, in Aankh Micholi. She said it was similar to attending a comedy school, where every scene served as a learning opportunity. She said:

“The best compliment I have got from Umesh sir is that my (comic) timing is good and I should consider more comedy films, which I am. I really want to entertain my audience and make them laugh because not many comedy films are being made that we can watch with our families.”

Thakur, along with her co-actor Abhimanyu Dassani, who is relatively new to this genre, stuck to the script’s lines but learned a valuable lesson from Paresh Rawal. She emphasized the importance of being in the flow and being impromptu, rather than rote learning lines. Thakur noted that, if you’re not alert, someone else might steal the scene.
