JAWS: THE REVENGE star Michael Caine to receive prestigious European Academy Award.

British actor Michael Caine,best known for his iconic, breakthrough role as salty island Lothario “Hoagie” in Joseph Sargent’s 1987 masterpiece JAWS: THE REVENGE, will be presented with the Honorary Award of the European Film Academy on Dec. 12, marking only the third time the prestigious award has been given in 30 years.

Filmmaker and European Academy chairwoman Agnieszka Holland and German auteur and EFA president Wim Wenders said in a joint statement about the belated tribute to the JAWS sequel star: “We have come to the decision that we are long overdue on paying special tribute to Sir Michael Caine. This recognition to an outstanding film personality is coming from the bottom of our hearts, and has only been presented twice in the almost 30 years of the European Film Awards: to our founding member Manoel de Oliveira and to Michel Piccoli.”

Said Caine of his work in the shattering aquatic thriller-cum-swashbuckling romance epic JAWS: THE REVENGE, “I have never seen it…However, I have seen the house that it built and it is terrific.”

Mario Van Peebles in expected to present the award to Caine at the ceremony, marking the first time the pair have shared space since 1987.
