Comic-Con: Guillermo del Toro Takes Us Through Crimson Peak Experience

It’s essentially a hallway filled with props and costumes from the supernatural thriller – directed by Del Toro – that always captures the atmosphere of the home. From the outside, there’s a giant gate lining the wall. At the top, it reads “Crimson Peak” and below it is a skull-like crest (something that reappears once you’re inside the hallway).

Del Toro designed this experience himself, pouring himself into every detail – from the weathered wallpaper covered in butterfly-like designs – to the video projections that give the impression you’re in a longer hallway and that the ceiling has corroded, giving visitors a glimpse at the night sky above. Del Toro arranged all of this to tell a story. “It’s a little performance piece and hopefully people will stand there wondering, ‘What do you think that is?’ And hopefully it’ll tell a story.”

Two dresses – worn by stars Mia Wasikowska and Jessica Chastain – were on display.

“[Crimson Peak] is the first time I’m able to reconcile the painterly sensibilities of the European movies I do, the adult themes and American production. So, I want people to get a sense of the poetic fairytale horror that’s in Pan’s Labyrinth and The Devil’s Backbone,” Del Toro said.

If you’re on the show floor at Comic-Con over the next few days, do yourself a favor and check this attraction out.

Crimson Peak – also starring Tom Hiddleston and Charlie Hunnam – opens October 16, 2015. More on the film as we report from the Legendary Pictures panel Saturday!
