Carrie Remake Found Footage? Raimi Circling Poltergeist?

Birnbaum let slip that the upcoming Carrie remake, directed by Kimberly Peirce, will incorporate elements of “found footage.”  That’s pretty easy to digest.

Over the next year, we’re going to be seeing a lot of films that “inject” a bit of a found footage narrative without wholly embracing the storytelling technique (Chernobyl Diaries, for instance). The original Stephen King novel also incorporated a recount of Carrie’s antics, which – if I recall – the made-for-TV film starring Angelis Bettis embraced.  So, could you say that the new Carrie is riding a fad?  Not really.

On a side-note regarding the film, Deadline says MGM has officially offered the role of Carrie’s mom to Julianne Moore.  Both Moore and Jodie Foster have always been frontrunners.

Birnbaum also revealed that Sam Raimi is in talks to helm the long-mooted Poltergeist remake.

Raimi is at work on Oz, The Great and Powerful right now, so who knows if we’ll see that any time soon.  Poltergeist has been kicked around MGM with various writers and directors.
