EXCL: Joe Dante Dives into The Hole

Also flying with Bat Out of Hell

ShockTillYouDrop.com received the heads-up this evening that director Joe Dante (The Howling) has signed to direct The Hole. Written by Vacancy‘s Mark L. Smith, the story follows a family, on the run from their past, who seek shelter in a house where an ominous hole is discovered in the basement. This obviously begs the question: What is the secret of the hole? Word is this is PG-13 fright fare. More details are on the way.

It is also being reported, via Variety, that Dante is attached to Bat Out of Hell for Parallel Zide and VooDoo Productions. The script, penned by Drew McWeeny and Scott Swan, takes place (as we first told you here) on a red-eye flight from L.A. to New York during which hijackers confront the monstrous cargo.

The early stages of pre-production have begun with the aim to shoot later this year.
