Halloween, featuring Michael Myers, Haddonfield, and Laurie Strode, is leaving Dead by Daylight in January 2026. It’s an asymmetric multiplayer survival horror game that consists of a Killer and four Survivors.
The Killer’s goal is to hunt down the Survivors and sacrifice them to a dark force, while the Survivors must fix generators to open the exit gates and escape. With the Halloween content out of the game, fans are curious to know the reason behind it.
Here’s why Halloween’s Michael Myers is leaving Dead by Daylight
All the Halloween chapter and associated content will be leaving Dead by Daylight on January 19, 2026, at 11 a.m. ET. The developers haven’t cited the exact reason for the departure, but it’s likely due to licensing issues or a new Halloween game debut next year (via Dead by Daylight).
Halloween’s Michael Myers originally debuted in October 2016. After a run of over 9 years, Dead by Daylight has announced that content from the Halloween chapter will no longer be available to unlock starting the aforementioned date.
Players who already own the content will still have access, but those who don’t may miss out once the chapter expires. To give fans a final opportunity, the game is offering Halloween characters and their cosmetics at 50% off.
Dead by Daylight also took to X (formerly Twitter) to announce the Halloween chapter’s departure while also addressing doubts about its content and the ongoing sale. The post read, “All content unlocked before that date will remain available for players in game, but the Haddonfield Realm will no longer be accessible.”
It continues, “To celebrate their time in The Fog, the content of the Chapter will be on sale on all platforms by December 22, giving you a chance to unlock the Characters and Cosmetics before they leave the store.”
The developer and publisher, Behaviour Interactive, has also not provided a specific reason for the chapter’s expiry in Dead by Daylight. Their FAQ notes: “As with all live service games, frequent updates and additions are to be expected.” The Halloween removal comes ahead of a new horror game launch by Illfonic, scheduled for September 8, 2026.
