Playing Gracie Darling Finale Reveals Who Ivy Is & if She Dies

The finale of Playing Gracie Darling had fans on the edge when Ivy Moon made a haunting return. Ivy, brought to life by Coco Jack Gillies, has been lurking in the background all season, but her final scenes in Episode 6 revealed shocking revelations about what really happened to her.

Does Ivy die in Playing Gracie Darling?

Ivy Moon was first seen in Episode 1 when Joni came by a psych ward. The troubled teen tries to stab herself, and Joni instantly grabs the psychologist’s full attention. Joni stops it and feels a brief sense of redemption for her lingering guilt over Gracie’s childhood disappearance.

From that moment, Ivy turns into a symbol throughout the series, embodying Joni’s ongoing battle with past trauma and unresolved demons. Throughout the series, Joni probes into the missing girls, slowly peeling back the truth about Gracie and her family. By the finale, it feels like the mysteries are wrapped up or at least some closure has been served.

Then Ivy comes into Joni’s garden. Seeing Ivy there, Joni can’t help but freak out, wondering if the girl somehow slipped out of the psych ward or if something else is at play. Soon, Joni finds out from her colleague Liam that Ivy actually took her own life. This makes Joni think that maybe she caught a ghostly glimpse, or maybe her brain is just processing trauma.

The finale wraps with Joni staring at the old shack where Gracie vanished. This once again makes fans wonder if Joni’s visions were psychic flashes or just her guilt and trauma playing tricks.  Since there is no word on the second season, this is all we have.

Playing Gracie Darling is an Aussie crime drama, now streaming on Netflix in the U.S. after its Paramount+ debut. It follows psychologist Joni Gray, who is probing into past traumas linked to her friend Gracie Darling’s disappearance.
