Why Was the Military After Eleven in Stranger Things Season 5?

Stranger Things Season 5 dives deeper into why the military is desperate to capture Eleven. After the Upside Down burst into Hawkins at the end of Season 4, the military locked down the entire town and took control. But their biggest mission is finding Eleven no matter what it takes.

Why the Military wants Eleven in Stranger Things Season 5

The new Stranger Things Season 5 makes it clear that the military has made Eleven their top target. Led by Dr. Ellen Kay, played by Linda Hamilton, the military even built a new base the MAC-Z inside the Upside Down.

Dr. Kay has spent months searching for Eleven, but throughout the season Jim Hopper and Joyce Byers have managed to keep her hidden while they train her for another battle with Vecna.

The military believes Eleven is connected to the strange disappearances happening in Hawkins. Dr. Kay convinced her team that Eleven may be killing or protecting the missing kids and says the “reason doesn’t matter.”

This is the major reason why the military has turned Hawkins into a military zone and forced Eleven to stay underground to avoid being caught. Dr. Kay’s obsession mirrors with Dr. Brenner’s as Season 5 strongly hints she isn’t on the side of good.

She’s already experimenting on Upside Down creatures and a major twist revealed that she has captured Kali (008), Eleven’s sister. Kali was first introduced in Season 2, where she and her friends had an interaction with Eleven in Episode 7, “The Lost Sister.”

Stranger Things Season 5 shows the military wants more answers than they want power. The military wants to try to weaponize Eleven’s abilities, use her inside the Upside Down or push her into dangerous missions.

They also see her as the missing link to ending Hawkins’ crisis. In short, the military doesn’t just want to protect Hawkins; they want to control the one person who can shift the entire war against the Upside Down.
