Al Calderon recently departed Days of Our Lives after playing Javi Hernandez, Rafe and Gabi’s cousin, who first appeared in the role in October 2024. Though he has now left the show for good, with the role set to be recast, he shared a message for fans about whether he might return in the future.
Al Calderon teases potential return to Days of Our Lives in goodbye message
In his farewell message, Al Calderon suggested that this was not a permanent goodbye. He addressed his fans and co-workers on Days of Our Lives before confirming his departure from the soap opera. The actor has landed a role in NBC’s Brilliant Minds Season 2, moving into prime-time television.
However, he has not ruled out a return to Days of Our Lives. In his farewell post, he wrote, “My time on Days of Our Lives has been truly life-changing. I’m endlessly grateful to the cast, crew, and creatives who made me feel seen, valued, and part of a legacy of family” (via Deadline). He continued, “I’ll carry the love, lessons, and memories with me on every journey I go on. While I’m just a small grain of sand, I’m just happy I got to pass through the hourglass. As my mom used to tell me, it’s not goodbye, just see you later. I love you forever.”
As his final line suggests, this is not goodbye. Since Days of Our Lives does not plan to write off Javi, and may instead recast him, there remains the possibility of Calderon returning in the future.
Calderon will play the role of Nurse Scotty Silva in Brilliant Minds Season 2. While he is no longer on Days of Our Lives, fans will continue to see him in another NBC program.
