Why Taylor Swift & Travis Kelce Skipped Met Gala 2025

Curious why Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce skipped the 2025 Met Gala? The star-studded occurrence returned with its signature glamour, but fans quickly noticed the high-profile couple were missing from the event. Their absence sparked speculation, especially since it would have been Kelce’s debut and Swift’s first appearance since 2016.

Here’s why Swift and Kelce didn’t attend the event and what sources revealed about their current priorities.

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce did not attend the Met Gala 2025

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce did not attend the 2025 Met Gala, despite receiving official invitations. TMZ reported that the couple had to decline the invite due to scheduling conflicts.

The May 5 event would have marked Kelce’s first appearance at the Met Gala. Swift last attended in 2016, when she served as a co-chair for the “Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology” theme. She made her debut at the gala in 2008 and has since attended multiple times, showcasing gowns by designers including Badgley Mischka, Ralph Lauren, J. Mendel, Oscar de la Renta, and Louis Vuitton.

According to People, a source said in April that “they are making the most of their time off together.” The insider added, “They have been traveling nonstop and very much enjoy it. They are hanging out with friends, too.” The source also stated that the couple is “very serious and in sync” and that “the focus is very much on private time out of the spotlight.”

The pair was last publicly seen together on March 14 in New York City at Del Frisco’s Grille. Swift, 35, recently concluded the Eras Tour, and Kelce, also 35, wrapped up the NFL season, giving them a rare break.

This year’s Met Gala, themed “Tailored for You,” highlighted the Metropolitan Museum’s “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” exhibit, co-chaired by Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams, and Anna Wintour, with LeBron James as honorary chair. The exhibit is inspired by Monica L. Miller’s book Slaves to Fashion and explores Black Dandyism from the 18th century to the present.
