3 Body Problem: Is It Over or Will There Be More Seasons & Books?

Viewers loving 3 Body Problem on Netflix might want to know how many more seasons could come out. Will more books be released to inspire multiple seasons in the future? Here’s all you need to know.

Is 3 Body Problem over after the first season?

3 Body Problem is expected to continue for more seasons as the story doesn’t end after Season 1.

Season 1’s final episode sets up future events in the series, which is based on Liu Cixin’s Three-Body Problem novel. Since he also wrote multiple sequels to his book, the series is therefore expected to continue for more seasons.

How many 3 Body Problem seasons will there be?

David Benioff has revealed big plans for future seasons, claiming that he’d prefer Netflix to continue the series for four seasons.

Collider’s interview with creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, and screenwriter Alexander Woo revealed that 3 Body Problem could have four seasons. This would reportedly be enough to cover the three book trilogy that Liu Cixin published.

David Benioff said during the interview, “There are three books. The first season roughly follows the arc of the first book, and the second season would probably roughly follow the second book. The third book is massive. It’s twice as long, I think, as the other two books, so maybe that’s one season, maybe it’s two. But I think we’d need at least three, maybe four seasons to tell the whole story. It’s a beautiful ending.”

So, ideally, the second book, The Dark Forest, will provide the source material for season 2, and the third book, Death’s End, will be split into Seasons 3 and 4 due to its length, if Netflix allows it.

Will there be more 3 Body Problem books?

More books are not expected to come out after Liu Cixin’s Three-Body Problem book trilogy.

Three-Body Problem was published in 2008. It was followed by The Dark Forest, which also arrived in 2008. Then, in 2010, the Chinese author published the final book in the trilogy, Death’s End.

Beyond that, Cixin did not write more sequels. Furthermore, no plans have been revealed for him to continue the series. There are a few fan sequels that came out in continuation of Death’s End. But those aren’t considered canon to what Cixin wrote.
