With The Matrix 5 being announced, the first question popping into everyone’s mind is whether Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss would be back to reprise their roles after The Matrix Resurrections.
Will Keanu Reeves return as Neo in The Matrix 5?
Keanu Reeves is not confirmed to return as Neo in The Matrix 5.
The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Warner Bros. has only announced the director for the film and nothing more. World War Z’s Drew Goddard will be taking over the directorial duties from the Wachowski sisters. Meanwhile, Lana Wachowski will still be attached as an executive producer for the project.
At the time of writing, plot details are being kept under wraps and no casting information has been revealed. Whether the film will be a prequel or a sequel remains to be seen. If it’s the former, telling us how The Matrix was created, then we shouldn’t expect Reeves’ Neo to be back. But if it’s the latter, then a cameo from Reeves could at least be expected, if not a leading role.
Will Carrie-Anne Moss return as Trinity in The Matrix 5?
Carrie-Anne Moss is not confirmed to reprise her role as Trinity in The Matrix 5.
As mentioned above, the casting information is not out yet. For now, THR has just reported the following that the Warner Bros. Motion Pictures president of production, Jesse Ehrman, said in a statement:
“Drew came to Warner Bros. with a new idea that we all believe would be an incredible way to continue the Matrix world, by both honoring what Lana and Lilly began over 25 years ago and offering a unique perspective based on his own love of the series and characters.”
He continued:
“The entire team at Warner Bros. Discovery is thrilled for Drew to be making his new Matrix film, adding his vision to the cinematic canon the Wachowskis spent a quarter of a century building here at the studio.”
Since the film is expected to expand The Matrix universe further, it could feature new characters and leads. But a cameo or leading role from Trinity and Neo is possible, even if it hasn’t been officially announced yet.
