H.E.R.B.I.E. Marvel: Who Is The Fantastic Four’s Robot?

Marvel Studios dropped a poster for The Fantastic Four alongside the cast announcement and fans spotted H.E.R.B.I.E. However, some fans are wondering who this robot is. Here is all you need to know.

Who is H.E.R.B.I.E. the Fantastic Four’s robot?

H.E.R.B.I.E. is a robot companion and ally of the Fantastic Four.

The robot was first introduced as an original character created for the animated series, The New Fantastic Four which aired between September and December 1978. H.E.R.B.I.E. served as a stand-in for Johnny Storm, aka The Human Torch, in the series as the character’s television rights were tied up by a proposed television pilot movie under the purview of Universal Studios, which never materialized.

However, H.E.R.B.I.E. was eventually adapted into comics by Marv Wolfman and John Byrne and made his first appearance in Fantastic Four #209.

In the comics, there are multiple versions of H.E.R.B.I.E. The first one appeared in Fantastic Four #209, where he was created by Reed Richards and Master Xar of the Xandarians to help them find Galactus. However, H.E.R.B.I.E. was mind-controlled by Xar’s enemy, Doctor Sun. Doctor Sun’s subconscious threatened to kill the heroes until H.E.R.B.I.E. sacrificed himself to save them.

Following this, a second H.E.R.B.I.E. appeared in the comics in Fantastic Four #244, created by Reed Richards to watch over his and Sue Storm’s son Franklin and track his immense power progression. However, Franklin’s power eventually destroyed the second H.E.R.B.I.E.

Despite this, numerous H.E.R.B.I.E. robots would later appear in subsequent issues of Fantastic Four comics, primarily as helper androids assisting the Fantastic Four with their everyday duties.

H.E.R.B.I.E. possesses various powers and abilities in his arsenal, such as communication with any computer system, producing electrical currents and lasers, and also access to various tools and features for various functions and purposes.
