Aquaman 2 Ending Explained

What Happened at the end of Aquaman 2?

Towards the end, Arthur Curry finally unites the land and sea by revealing Atlantis to the open world. He negotiates for a seat at the table with the UN and agrees to help reverse the damage done to the planet’s environment.

In the final battle of Aquaman 2, both Black Manta and Atlan’s brother, Kordax, are defeated. Arthur Curry saves Orm from being swayed by the dark magic of the Black Trident right before destroying it. After the final battle, Orm regains the trust of King Nereus, Brine King, Arthur, and Mera. But he wasn’t welcomed back to Atlantis to maintain the peace between all Kingdoms. He was a fugitive, after all.

However, since Orm had paid his debt to the world, Arthur let him escape with the promise that he would reach out to his brother to seek counsel for ruling over Atlantis. Orm departs showing faith in his older brother’s judgement by telling him to trust his instincts.

As a result, Arthur finally decides to reveal the existence of Atlantis to the surface world. He signs a peace treaty with the UN and demands a seat on the table of world leaders. He also calls out to people across the globe to unite with him in reversing the damage that had been done to the planet by burning Orichalcum and other human activities conducted over a century.

Meanwhile, we also see Orm enjoying an extra greasy Cheeseburger, which leads us into the mid-credits scene.

Who Dies in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom?

Atlan’s monstrous brother Kordax, David Kane/Black Manta, and the armies of both these villains die in Aquaman 2.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom gets a happy ending where all the good guys live while the villains perish. Arthur and Mera manage to save their son Arthur Jr. Meanwhile, all supporting characters including King Nereus, Thomas Curry, Atlana, Dr. Shin, and the Brine King survive.

The two major deaths in the film were of the big bad villains. First, Arthur finished what King Atlan had started by destroying the Black Trident and killing Kordax along with that. This leads to the destruction of the Lost Kingdom of Necrus as well. While Arthur tries to write the wrongs of his past and save Black Manta, the villain doesn’t accept that and chooses to die amidst falling debris.

What’s next for Jason Momoa’s Arthur Curry after Aquaman 2?

Jason Momoa’s Arthur Curry ends things by fulfilling his destiny. He proves to be a true king, building a bridge between the land and the sea. But this may be where his story comes to an end.

With James Gunn’s DCU coming into effect and Aquaman being part of a different Universe, his character may be left behind. The box office numbers of Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom might decide whether Momoa will continue to play a variant of Arthur Curry in Gunn’s DC Universe. But if not that, then the actor could portray Lobo in the upcoming DCU movies.
