War 2 is an upcoming Indian Hindi-language action-thriller film. It is a sequel to the 2019 release War, directed by Siddharth Anand. The War films are parts of the expanding YRF spy universe, which comprises similarly-themed action films revolving around fictional R&AW agents.
War 2 will be the sixth entry in the shared universe, which also includes the Tiger films starring Salman Khan and Pathaan starring Shah Rukh Khan. A few days after War’s release, its director, Siddharth Anand, told IANS that there were already plans to turn the film into a franchise and that they were waiting for the audience’s reaction.

Is there a War 2 release date?
War 2’s release date is expected to be around India’s Republic Day (January 26) weekend in 2025.
In April 2023, the sequel was officially announced, with Hrithik Roshan reprising his role from the first film with N.T. Rama Rao Jr. and Kiara Advani are set to join the cast. N.T. Rama Rao Jr., arguably best known for his outing as Komaram Bheem in RRR, will make his Hindi film debut with War 2. Ayan Mukerji (Brahmāstra: Part One – Shiva) is set to direct the film, replacing Anand, who will develop another YRF Spy Universe entry, Tiger versus Pathaan.
The YRF Spy Universe was created by Aditya Chopra, the current chairman of the Yash Raj Films. In April 2023, a source reportedly told Variety, “NTR Jr [N.T. Rama Rao Jr.] is locking horns with Hrithik Roshan in War 2. It’s going to be epic. Their battle of wits and their fierce showdown will definitely be an action spectacle to remember on the big screen. This move by Aditya Chopra enables War 2 to have the widest audience appeal for a Hindi film, and it also widens the box office potential of the film. South India should come alive and connect at a more emotional level with the film because of the presence of their beloved superstar.”
In September 2023, the Indian entertainment website Bollywood Hungama reported that Chopra and Roshan would prefer War 2 to come out during the Republic Day 2025 weekend. “Republic Day weekend is proving to be a great money spinner for the Hindi Film Industry,” a source told the outlet. “Be it Agneepath or Pathaan, both Hrithik and YRF have tasted success on this date and are now considering a Republic Day 2025 release for War 2. In fact, Hrithik’s next, Fighter, is also set to release on the same weekend in 2024.”
The production for the upcoming film is slated to begin in November 2023. According to the same source, while there is a possibility for the film to be delayed to mid-2025, YRF is keen on the 2025 Republic Day opening.
