Ubisoft Announces New Game Mode for Assassin’s Creed Origins

In case you’ve wondered why there were not more opportunities for history lessons between throat slashing in an Assassin’s Creed game, Ubisoft has got you covered. The developer has announced today they’ll be adding “Discovery Tour” to the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Origins as a free update in 2018.

The brand new mode will allow players free roam throughout the entire interactive 3D recreation of Ancient Egypt in Assassin’s Creed Origins, free of combat, storyline or time constraints. From Alexandria to Memphis, the Nile Delta to the Great Sand Sea, the Giza plateau to the Faiyum Oasis, players can immerse themselves like never before in the rich history of Ancient Egypt. “Discovery Tour” will offer dozens of guided tours curated by historians and Egyptologists, each with a focus on a different aspect of Ptolemaic Egypt, such as the Great Pyramids, mummification or the life of Cleopatra.

“From the beginning, the Assassin’s Creed franchise has always explored pivotal moments in history, from the Third Crusade to the Italian Renaissance, and this year Ancient Egypt,” said Jean Guesdon, creative director of Assassin’s Creed Origins. “It’s a dream come true for us to offer Discovery Tour by Assassin’s Creed: Ancient Egypt, an educational mode built specifically for people to learn more about the incredible history of Ancient Egypt through the interactive experience made possible via a video game.”

Start here, at the very beginning, with the never-before-told origin story of Assassin’s Creed. You are Bayek, protector of Egypt, whose personal story will lead to the creation of the Assassin’s Brotherhood. Pick and tackle quests at your own pace: each of them tells an intense and emotional story full of colorful characters and meaningful objectives. From deserts to lush oases, from the Mediterranean Sea to the tombs of Giza, fight your way against dangerous factions and wild beasts as you explore this gigantic and unpredictable land.

Assassin’s Creed Origins will be available on October 27.
