Lego Bricktales Gameplay Showcases Intricate Building Mechanics

Giving the Lego license to the team behind the popular Bridge Constructor series is a pretty apt fit that has resulted in Lego Bricktales. Developer ClockStone is finally ready to show off more of the Lego game in action, as the studio has collaborated with YouTuber Drae to release 16 minutes of gameplay.

While there have been plenty of Lego games that showcase the unique worlds constructed solely by bricks and other plastic pieces, Bricktales focuses on how those worlds come together and building can be used to solve problems. Each biome will have unique puzzles to solve with a set collection of bricks and no instructions to guide the way.

The gameplay starts off with a simple bridge as a nod to the developer’s past but quickly ramps up to taking apart jungle ruins and chatting it up with alien robots. The full game will feature a story full of minifig characters to talk to and problems that can only be solved with Lego know-how.

Outside of the main adventure, players can utilize Bricktales‘ building mechanics in a freeform Sandbox Mode and complete additional, non-puzzle-based builds. The latter involves building out theme park rides, so perhaps there’s a little crossover with Legoland to discover.

In any case, Lego Bricktales is scheduled for release sometime in 2022, with only a PC release being confirmed at this time. It’s one of several new games that go beyond the light platformer formula most associate with the brand today.

In that vein, the next games to showcase the familiar red logo could be a set of Lego sports titles rumored to be in development at 2K Games, as reported on by Video Games Chronicle. Considering the massive success of the most recent Lego Star Wars, it’s a sure bet that the Lego name will continue to be involved in gaming in some form for a long time.
