Arcadegeddon, Illfonic’s cooperative online roguelite shooter, has been in early access for some time on the PC and PlayStation 5. And not only is it about to burst out of the pre-release program, but it’s just about to hit new platforms, too. Arcadegeddon will release on July 5 on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PS4 on and will exit early access on PS5 and PC on that same day, too. Even though the game is currently $19.99 in early access on PS5 and PC, the launch version will be $29.99 on all platforms.
It’ll have cross-play between every platform, something that Illfonic’s upcoming Ghostbusters game will also have. There will also be a physical version coming this summer for those who want a disc. And while everyone will start fresh at launch (which likely means that all current progress from PS5 and PC players will be wiped), everyone who played during early access will get a special bundle with a decoration for Gilly’s Arcade, a “five-day minimum” XP boost, and a currency boost bundle.
This cooperative shooter is a mix of PVE and PVP modes that cycles through multiple stages as players progress. The art style is unique from what Illfonic has usually created. While it is stylized in a way somewhat like Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed, it is a far cry from Friday the 13th: The Game and Predator: Hunting Grounds.
IllFonic CEO Charles Brungardt said Illfonic chose early access because of the pandemic, as the team wanted feedback, which it received. Brungardt also said the content has probably doubled since it entered early access. Chief Creative Jared Gerritzen chimed in by saying that early access also helped the studio dial in what it wanted to do, which was a little more difficult given the uniqueness of the game. Brungardt then stated that there will be 11 gang leaders, six total biomes, four bosses, and 37 weapons at launch, along with a ton of enemies and costumes.
