Assassin’s Creed Valhalla & Odyssey Crossover DLC Sees the Return of Kassandra

Ubisoft may have just officially unveiled its biggest premium Assassin’s Creed expansion ever, but it also showed off another ambitious piece of free DLC coming to the series, too. Assassin’s Creed Crossover Stories is yet bit of downloadable content that will see Valhalla‘s Eivor and Odyssey‘s Kassandra or Alexios meet for the first time. Each game will get its own update on December 14 that will add part of the story for free, meaning some players might need to reinstall Assassin’s Creed Odyssey before the patch drops.

The brief trailer for the game shows the two in action and clanging their blades together, with only vague allusions to what the story is here. This DLC will spoil the wild events of Odyssey‘s other premium DLC (as Kassandra or Alexios still being alive in the ninth century raises some questions), but players need to only finish the first chapter and get to Megaris to play it. However, Ubisoft recommends that users finish the Cult of Kosmos, Family, and Mythology story arcs in Odyssey to avoid those aforementioned spoilers. For Valhalla players, users have to only get to their settlement to level four and get the Valka, the mysterious sorceress that is the key to the Asgard storyline, settled in.

It’s unique to have crossover DLC in two games, especially in a game that originally came out in 2018. Regardless, Ubisoft Quebec (the main studio behind Odyssey) and Ubisoft Montreal (the main studio behind Valhalla) closely collaborated for this crossover to answer the question “What happens when two Assassin’s Creed heroes meet?” and provide a “unique narrative experience to players.” And in addition to new narrative storylines, there will also be new environments, too. It’s not clear if one leads into another or if they should be played in a certain order. Also, while Alexios will be playable in Odyssey, only Kassandra will show up in Valhalla, according to Ubisoft.

While somewhat surprising, there was some evidence that there would be some sort of crossover coming. Tom Henderson, the person who leaked the Dawn of Ragnarök DLC, recently said more DLC was coming soon. A datamine from August also revealed that Kassandra was returning via voice lines in the code. Assassin’s Creed Odyssey even got a seemingly random update in August that boosted it for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, showing that Ubisoft wasn’t quite done with the game.
