Chinese thriller drama Frozen Surface has released its eighth episode. The episode came out on January 15, 2024. The original broadcasting network of Frozen Surface is Tencent Video. The drama focuses on Captain Guan Yu (Chen Jianbin) of Lanhe criminal police as he solves numerous mysterious murders around Lanhe. Guan Yu is a well-respected police officer who puts justice above everything else.
As it is slowly approaching its finale, the drama reveals various complicated plots and characters. As seen in the previous episode, Guan Yu found an old connection with Yang Si (Hu Jun). The police had been doubting that the Yang Si they had taken into custody was not the real suspect but someone who took the blame for the original Yang Si. They even visited Yang Si’s old hometown to get to the bottom of this.
The eighth episode of Frozen Surface begins with a flashback from 1990. The annual spring festival is taking place at Lanhe Fertilizer Plant. Three friends receive their medal of excellence from the director of the plant. One of them is Yang Lija. Young Mr. Hongqiao is also present at the ceremony. Years later one of these medals will be retrieved from the spot of Mr. Hongqiao’s murder.
In the previous episode, Guan Yu went looking for an old acquaintance. From the acquaintance, he comes to know that Yang Lija has long passed away from an illness. His main focus of investigation now is finding out if Zhao Xinguo did lose the medal.

Back at the police station Guan Yu interrogates Fang Gen’s mother about his whereabouts. She completely denies his involvement in the case. When Guan Yu confronts her saying Fang Gen bought the gun for Mr. Hongqiao, she completely ignores the question. She convinces Guan Yu to investigate Wang Ping (Deng Jiajia), Mr. Honhqiao’s ex-wife.
Two detectives are keeping a watch on Wang Ping’s house. One of Hongqiao’s business partners, Wuguli, goes to meet with Wang Ping. She convinces her to let her handle Hongqiao Transportation. Wang says yes at first but then orders Xiang to go after her. When the police notice this, they also go after them. They arrive at the Yongxing village.
Guan Yu arrives at Lija’s childhood home. He learns that the old couple living in that house had adopted Lija and raised him like their own son. But one day Lija attacked the old man and left him to die. Zhao Xinguo then went after him and reportedly saw him slip into an ice hole. He also learns about Wang Ping’s cunning nature.
Wang Shen recalls about the night when Wuguli had taken her to retrieve a bag from the snow. Towards the end of the episode, a mysterious character is introduced to the viewers. She goes looking for Wang Shen and tries to break into the house when he is kept.
