Recently, the thriller C-drama Frozen Surface released episode 4. The drama features famous actors like Chen Jianbin, Deng Jiajia, and Hu Jun as leads. The new episode aired on January 11, 2024.
Frozen Surface takes place in 2005 and follows the story of captain Guan Yu (Chen Jianbin) of the Lanhe County Criminal Police Department. Guan Yu is a hardworking and sharp-eyed officer who is well-respected within his department.
In the previous episode, viewers saw Guan Yu encountering the murders of Mr. Hongqiao, a prominent businessman in Lanhe country, and his wife. Someone broke into their house and killed Mr. Hongqiao, while Mrs. Hongqiao jumped from the window and succumbed to her death. While inspecting, viewers saw how quick and sharp-eyed Guan Yu is. Nothing escapes his eyes. He is able to examine the crime scene from several angles at once. There were many suspects, including Mr. Hongqiao’s ex-wife, Wang Ping (Deng Jiajia), and people who worked at the Hongqiao residency. Yang Si (Hu Jun) was one of the prime suspects. He was seen fleeing the Hongqiao house on the night of the murder. Not only that, he also allegedly threatened a passerby with a bloodied lethal weapon.
With all this evidence in hand, police took him into custody. At first, Yang denied any involvement in the case. But when the police presented all the evidence, he broke his silence and confessed to murdering Mr. Hongqiao and his wife.
At the beginning of ep 4 of Frozen Surface, Yang Si is at home sharing a hearty meal with his son. It is evident that he deeply cares for his son. Yang Si’s son is a truck driver. Yang even hangs a good-luck charm in his car.

The next morning, police take Yang Si to Mr. Hongqiao’s abandoned factory site so he can help them look for the murder weapon. But instead of helping, he tries to engage in idle chatter with the police. He announces that it is not possible for him to remember where he dumped the weapon as it was dark. After searching for some time, the police finally find the weapon. Guan Yu still feels that Yang Si is trying to hide something.
Guan Yu meets the witness, whom Yang Si had threatened on that night, and confirms that it was, in fact, Yang Si and not his son who he saw. Afterward, the police arrive at the spot where the passerby had encountered Yang Si and start searching for any clue. Guan Yu meets with another man and finds out that Mr. Hongqiao and his nephew were also not on good terms. Mr. Hongqiao was upset with the nephew when he found out how he had fiddled with his bank accounts.
On the other hand, Miss Wang Ping, Mr. Hongqiao’s ex-wife, calls for a meeting with Hongqiao’s subordinates and pursue them to join her company. The subordinates humiliate her at first. But Miss Ping is able to convince them.
Guan visits a restaurant that Yang Si’s son frequently visits to gather more information on him. Instead of untangling, mysteries are starting to intensify.
