The video highlights the friendship between two young aspiring manga artists, who inspire each other to become better at their crafts. They teamed up to create their own manga, which they hoped get serialized one day. Following its Japanese release last June, the film will now arrive in U.S. theaters on October 4.

“Popular, outgoing Fujino is celebrated by her classmates for her funny comics in the class newspaper,” reads the synopsis. “One day, her teacher asks her to share the space with Kyomoto, a truant recluse whose beautiful artwork sparks a competitive fervor in Fujino. What starts as jealousy transforms when Fujino realizes their shared passion for drawing. The film captures the highs and lows of pursuing artistic excellence and the special bonds formed through creative collaboration.”

Look Back is directed by Kiyotaka Oshiyama in his feature-length directorial debut. Prior to the film, Oshiyama previously worked with Hayao Miyazaki on his most recent film, The Boy and the Heron movie, as key animator. It is a production by Studio Durian.
