In an interview with Yahoo, Jeremy Renner confirms what we could have very easily assumed, that he will be returning as William Brandt in Mission: Impossible 5 for director Christopher McQuarrie with a script from Drew Pearce (Iron Man), which was then rewritten by Will Staples.
For whatever reason the Yahoo interviewer asked Renner about the possibility of starring in “True Detective” to which he replied, “It’s kind of unlikely. In fact, I’m kind of strapped time-wise doing Avengers 2, and Mission: Impossible 5 is rearing its head, and then they want to do another Bourne movie. It’s unlikely I can find the time right now. And that’s all right. It’s just really high-class problems — pretty awesome to have. Even if I really wanted to do it, which I don’t, I couldn’t.”
Renner will next be see in Kill the Messenger later this year and it sounds like on top of Avengers: Age of Ultron we can count on seeing him Christmas Day 2015 in Mission: Impossible 5. As for that fifth Bourne film, that’s looking more and more like a 2016 release despite the August 14, 2015 release date Universal already set.
As for M:I 5, Tom Cruise and Simon Pegg are both returning, no word on Paula Patton, though Jessica Chastain was rumored previously.
