Remind me again why I want to see Antichrist so bad.
The fact Lars von Trier directed it is certainly one reason and the fact it has created controversy everywhere it goes is definitely another, but I think the number one reason is that I get some sort of validation knowing Willem Dafoe and Charlotte Gainsbourg are in it. Strangely enough I’m not a huge Willem Dafoe fan and while Gainsbourg is a great actress she has never moved me in any such way as to make me believe I absolutely must see her next film. So, when a new poster like the one below arrives touting “strong real sex, bloody violence and self-mutilation” I begin to wonder just what my sick and twisted mind is thinking.
Nonetheless, I still want to see it. If not for any other reason than that of a simple ape: Other people already saw it and now it’s only fair I get to. Of course, this comes with the caveat that after seeing it I already feel as if I will be sickened into never wanting to see it again, but guess what, I will have seen it… for whatever that’s worth in the long run.
The below poster comes from IMPAwards you can head over there for a larger version. Antichrist hits theaters on October 23 from IFC. The “July 24” note on the poster is because this is the UK version.
