Nolte Joins Thurber’s ‘Mysteries’

Rawson Thurber last directed Dodgeball, the Ben Stiller comedy, but his next film is a bit more serious as he wrote and will direct the feature adaptation of Michael Chabon’s debut novel The Mysteries of Pittsburgh. The film already stars Peter Sarsgaard, Sienna Miller, Jon Foster and Mena Suvari and Variety has just announced that Nick Nolte will also join the cast.

The film centers on Foster who will play Art Bechstein, a recent college graduate trying to escape the clutches of his mobster father (Nolte). The story follows the last summer of Art’s youth as he falls into a love triangle with Jane (Miller) and Cleveland (Sarsgaard), a charismatic couple who draw him into a series of exhilarating adventures that ultimately pit him against his father. Suvari will play Phlox, Art’s eccentric part-time girlfriend and boss at a discount book chain.

Production is scheduled to begin September 5 in Pittsburgh.
