Ghost Rider: Eva Mendes Brings Full-Circle Twist to Ryan Gosling MCU Casting

Eva Mendes celebrated her partner, Ryan Gosling’s casting as Ghost Rider in the MCU. The retired actress originally played Roxanne Simpson, the titular superhero’s love interest, in the 2007 Ghost Rider film.

Eva Mendes celebrated Gosling’s casting by sharing a nostalgic clip from The Place Beyond the Pines on Instagram, saying he is “perfect” for the role. The clip shows the opening scene where Gosling’s character is attempting a motorcycle stunt at a carnival. Ghost Rider, as seen in Marvel Comics and the original Nicolas Cage film, is also well-known for being a ferocious motorcycle stuntman.

“From this intro only I thought Ryan Gosling can be perfect casting for Ghost Rider role,” Mendes wrote in the post. She signed off with the cheeky caption with the cheeky caption, “Love, Roxy,” referring to her character in the original film.

Why Eva Mendes revisited The Place Beyond the Pines after Ghost Rider news

Mendes shared the screen with Gosling in The Place Beyond the Pines, playing his ex. Both actors met on the set of that film, which sparked their romance. She later starred in Gosling’s 2014 directorial debut, Lost River. With Gosling set to star as the Devil’s Bounty Hunter, both he and Mendes, his real-life partner, would both have portrayed Marvel characters on screen.

Marvel Studios announced Gosling as the new Ghost Rider during its San Diego Comic-Con panel. The announcement followed years of Gosling expressing interest in playing the character. The upcoming film will be directed by Shawn Levy, who collaborated with Gosling on Star Wars: Starfighter. Levy previously directed the 2024 hit Deadpool & Wolverine for Marvel. The studio has yet to reveal which version of the Spirit of Vengeance Gosling will portray.

Marvel Studios’ Ghost Rider is scheduled to be released in theaters in 2028.
