Silo Season 3 unveils, toward the end of Episode 4, that a character formerly believed to be dead is still very much alive. This casts everything that has happened recently in the sci-fi post-apocalyptic series in an entirely new light.
Silo Season 3 Episode 4 ending reveals the truth about Bernard’s fate
Right before the credits start rolling in Silo Season 3 Episode 4, Rebecca Ferguson‘s Juliette Nichols discovers that Tim Robbins‘ Bernard Holland is still alive. This, even though earlier in the season, a flashback seemingly revealed that Common’s Robert Sims killed Bernard. After the erstwhile mayor successfully escaped Silo 18’s decontamination chamber, Robert apparently choked him to death.
The same flashback even showed that Bernard’s body was seemingly burned. Meanwhile, Robert had lied to Juliette and told her that Bernard died after his suit sustained damage due to the fire in the chamber. The flashback occurred during Robert’s interaction with Camille Sims, Alexandria Riley’s character.
In this episode, Juliette realizes that something is wrong with her memories and sets out to find what’s happening to her. She eventually reaches one of the lowest levels of Silo 18 and has the above-mentioned troubling reunion with Bernard.
The episode’s ending raises more questions than it answers. The most prevalent among them is how Bernard survived. Perhaps Bernard is alive despite Robert’s best efforts, but that seems unlikely.
So, it’s possible that Robert faked the other man’s death. He may have realized that, despite the man’s past, Bernard can save everyone. Bernard may even have shared details about the Safeguard Procedure with Robert, making his decision easier.
There is also the fact that Robert has worked for Bernard for a long time, which could have contributed to his decision.
As things stand, Bernard, Juliette, and Lukas Kyle are the only people in Silo 18 who know the threat Safeguard Procedure poses. As answers surrounding his survival emerge in the coming episodes, Bernard could ultimately become an important ally for Juliette.
