Why Spider-Man: Brand New Day might make you cry
The emotional stakes of Spider-Man: Brand New Day may be far greater than fans are expecting. During a recent interview with Onic Entertainment, Tom Holland, Zendaya, and Jacob Batalon suggested that the upcoming Marvel film contains several heartbreaking moments. Their comments arrive as anticipation continues to build ahead of the film’s theatrical release later this month.
When the trio was asked whether audiences would cry while watching the film, Zendaya immediately replied, “Yes.” Holland quickly followed with, “Big Time,” while Zendaya added, “I cried multiple times.”
Expanding on the film’s tone, Holland admitted, “It’s very sad. I don’t know if it’s the best selling point of the movie…but it’s cathartic…but then also devastating.” However, the cast stopped short of revealing any further details.
Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton from a screenplay by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, Brand New Day continues Peter Parker’s story four years after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home. With Doctor Stephen Strange’s spell having erased all public memory of Peter’s identity, he now lives in complete anonymity while continuing to protect New York as Spider-Man. As Peter investigates a new enemy threatening the city, he also begins experiencing unexplained changes in his abilities.
Along with Holland, Zendaya, and Batalon, the film also stars Sadie Sink, Jon Bernthal, Tramell Tillman, Michael Mando, and Mark Ruffalo. Spider-Man: Brand New Day is scheduled to be released in theaters on July 31, 2026.
