Evil Dead Burn director opens up about working on the franchise and what he wants to do next. The film is back with plenty of horror, scary creatures, and intense scenes, and made an impact on fans with its practical effects and gripping story under Sebastien Vanicek’s direction.
The Evil Dead Burn director has no interest in making a sequel
In an interview with Variety, Vanicek said he enjoyed making Evil Dead Burn. He got Sam Raimi, Ghost House Pictures, and producer Rob Tapert, who trusted his approach to making the movie. He added that creative freedom was one of the main reasons he accepted the project.
Despite the nice experience, Vanicek doesn’t have a plan to return for another Evil Dead movie. He believes the franchise works best when different filmmakers bring fresh ideas to each instalment rather than repeating the same formula.
“I don’t think I would write and direct another Evil Dead. The only one who can do two Evil Dead movies is Sam Raimi! It’s a franchise that needs a fresh vision and fresh directors all the time. Fans want to be surprised, and if we want to keep the franchise alive, we need those different visions,” the Dead Burn director said.

The film’s post-credit scene hints that the story could continue in future movies. Vanicek revealed, however, that the production team requested the scene. He also has no idea what the studio has planned for the franchise or how future films will connect.
Vanicek is ready to move on from Evil Dead and is also interested in directing other studio films and original projects. He enjoys working on larger productions, but wants to continue writing and shaping his own stories.
Evil Dead Burn might lead to more films in the future. However, Vanicek thinks it’s time for another filmmaker to take the franchise in a new direction.
