ComingSoon is excited to exclusively reveal the covers and extra-sized details for Oni Press and Archie Comic Publications‘ Archie #1. From writer Ben H. Winters and artist Fábio Moon, the extra-sized, 40-page debut issue is expected to launch on September 2, 2026.
The announcement also comes with an exclusive preview of Archie #1’s inked pages by Moon. Oni Press has also shared several cover variants made by various artists. This includes a never-before-seen FOC reveal cover by comics master Travis Charest (X-Men/WildC.A.T.s: The Golden Age), featuring the legendary artist’s first-ever rendition of the Riverdale gang. Now live for order at Penguin Random House, this cover will be available exclusively to fans and retailers who place their orders by Final Order Cut-Off (FOC) on July 27.
What do we know about Archie #1?
“For his entire life, 17-year-old Archie Andrews has had it all: adoring friends, football glory, and a natural charm that always seems to make him the center of attention. Now, through his eyes, experience the warmth and wonder of Riverdale and its near-infinite roster of residents—the popular kids, the endearing oddballs, and everyone in between – as Archie embarks on a whirlwind, all-star adventure through his town’s past, present, and future… beginning with a local film festival that’s about to turn everything upside down! And, at the center of it all, lies an enigmatic paradox that only Archie’s pal Jughead Jones can possibly unravel,” reads the new comic’s official description. “Plus: Puzzles! Pin-ups! And a veritable sweet shop of surprises that all link to the same inextricable mystery . . . Finally, your antidote for postmodern malaise has arrived. Welcome to the all-new Archie #1!”
Archie #1 hails from New York Times bestselling writer, Edgar Award and Philip K. Dick Award winner, and Eisner Award nominee Ben H. Winters (EC’s Cruel Universe, Benjamin) with art by Eisner Award–winning artist Fábio Moon (Daytripper, Casanova). The extra-sized debut issue will also feature a bounty of exciting extras, including puzzles, pin-ups, and more. Besides Charest, it includes covers by artists Stuart Immonen (All-New X-Men, New Avengers), Fábio Moon (Daytripper), Karl Kerschl (Gotham Academy), Khary Randolph (Sirens of the City), Kano (Daredevil, Sabrina the Teenage Witch), Dan Parent (Life with Kevin), Elsa Charretier (Love Everlasting), and Mahmud Asrar (Conan the Barbarian).
“Much like when Archie Andrews first appeared in PEP Comics #22 in 1941, there are a lot of stressful things happening in the world right now,” Senior Editor Bess Pallares said in a statement. “Retreating into the fantasy of a perfect, easy life in Riverdale sounds tempting, but now as then, Riverdale is not a utopia immune to drama, uncertainty, and people who need help – but it does have Archie, who’s ready to start each day with a smile and a desire to be the best friend, movie date, quarterback, and boy next door anyone could ask for. The hilarious, heartwarming launch to this new series from Ben and Fábio is not a distraction from our stressful world, but a reminder of the good things that still exist when we help each other…and remember to laugh.”
