Netflix’s star-studded Las Vegas drama just became impossible to ignore with its latest casting power move. The streamer added several major names to its Oscar Isaac-led casino series backed by Martin Scorsese.
Netflix just made Oscar Isaac’s The Roman even more ridiculously stacked
Netflix’s upcoming Las Vegas casino drama The Roman has added five new cast members to its already star-studded lineup. Variety reports that Vincent D’Onofrio and Kate Mara will join as series regulars alongside lead Oscar Isaac. Meanwhile, Clancy Brown and Thomas Sadoski will star in recurring roles, and Jason Schwartzman will be a guest star in the show.
D’Onofrio, known for Daredevil: Born Again and The Beauty, will play the role of Dominic Ward. The character is an MMA mogul who manipulates casino bosses using his “knockout power.” Meanwhile, Mara will portray Holly Reeve, a highly educated entrepreneur running an exclusive empire. Holly also shares a deep and complicated history with Isaac’s Bobby Red.
Brown will take on the role of Elwood, who has deep ties to the desert landscape. The character “knows exactly where the city’s literal and metaphorical bodies are buried,” according to the outlet. Sadoski will take on the role of Chef Luca, a self-destructive superstar chef whose personal entanglements threaten his restaurant residency. Schwartzman rounds out the new additions as David Krupp, a clean-cut heir whose casino debts land him in trouble.
The new cast members join an ensemble that already includes Betty Gilpin, Alec Baldwin, and David Costabile. Brian Koppelman and David Levien serve as writers, executive producers, and showrunners on the eight-episode series. Martin Scorsese is also an executive producer on the project.
JC Chandor is said to helm the first two episodes, along with executive producing. Isaac will also executive produce through his banner Mad Gene. The series follows Robert “Bobby Red” Redman, “president of the hottest hotel casino in town.” He must make long-odds moves to secure his position and expand his territory in the sharp-elbowed Las Vegas casino business.
