Robert Downey Jr.’s Iconic $585 Million Sci-Fi Hit Is Taking Over Streaming

A beloved Robert Downey Jr.-led blockbuster is finding a new audience on streaming. The longtime fan favorite has climbed into Hulu’s Top 10 in the United States. Years after redefining the comic book genre, the film is proving it still has plenty of fuel left in the tank.

Iron Man becomes a streaming hit on Hulu

Nearly two decades after its release, Iron Man is proving it still has plenty of fuel left. According to Flix Patrol, the 2008 superhero hit climbed into Hulu’s U.S. Top 10 movie chart on July 13, pulling ahead of several popular titles, including General Hospital, The Wolf of Wall Street, Redux Redux, Send Help, and even a fellow Marvel movie. Fans still love going back to the film that kicked off the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The movie introduces Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark, a billionaire whose life changes after he is kidnapped by terrorists. Using his engineering skills, he creates a powerful armored suit to escape captivity. That life-changing experience pushes Stark to leave the weapons business behind and use his inventions to help people instead, becoming Iron Man. The cast also includes Terrence Howard, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jeff Bridges, and Shaun Toub.

Jon Favreau gave Iron Man a style that felt fresh, fusing big action scenes with plenty of humor and a surprisingly personal story. A huge part of the movie’s success came from Robert Downey Jr., whose quick wit and charm made Tony Stark instantly memorable. Rather than leaning only on flashy CGI, the film built Stark’s character, which is why many fans still rank it among Marvel’s best superhero origin movies.

The success wasn’t limited to fan praise. Iron Man became a major box-office hit, collecting around $585 million worldwide from a budget of roughly $140 million. Critics embraced it with a 94% score on Rotten Tomatoes, while audiences gave it an impressive 91%. On IMDb, it holds a strong 7.9/10 rating, and the film continues to be a favorite with both reviewers and longtime Marvel fans.
