Ted Lasso fans just got the best possible news about the show’s future from an Apple TV boss. An executive shares an exciting update on what comes after Season 4 for the beloved comedy series.
Apple TV boss shares encouraging update on Ted Lasso Season 5
Apple TV head of programming Matt Cherniss shared a promising update on Ted Lasso Season 5 during a Deadline interview.
Notably, Cherniss revealed that star and co-creator Jason Sudeikis already has plans to begin work on the next installment. “Jason’s still hard at work on season four, and I know he’s looking to jump into the next season soon, but to my knowledge, I don’t think we’ve gotten started on it yet,” Cherniss said.
However, Apple TV has not yet officially renewed Ted Lasso for a fifth season. Additionally, Sudeikis also serves as showrunner, head writer and executive producer on the comedy series. The show earned 61 Emmy nominations across its first three seasons on the streaming platform.
Meanwhile, Cherniss also expressed strong confidence in Apple TV’s comedy lineup going forward. “It’s great, I feel like we have the best comedy brand in the business,” he said. Furthermore, he added that moving from Shrinking and Widow’s Bay to Ted Lasso and The Studio next year puts Apple TV in a strong position. “We feel really, really confident about our slate, and the shows, and we’re excited that the audience is coming along for the ride,” Cherniss said.
Ted Lasso Season 4 premieres August 5 on Apple TV. The new season follows Ted as he coaches a second division women’s football team in Richmond. Jason Sudeikis returns alongside Hannah Waddingham, Juno Temple, Brett Goldstein, Brendan Hunt and Jeremy Swift.
In addition, new cast members include Tanya Reynolds, Jude Mack, Faye Marsay and Rex Hayes among others. Many of them play members of the women’s football team. If Season 5 moves forward, it will likely continue following the women’s team as part of a possible three-season arc. The first three seasons similarly followed AFC Richmond’s men’s team across a complete storyline.
