General Hospital Exit Twist: How Andrew Hawkes Found Out Ross Cullum Will Die

Andrew Hawkes, who plays Agent Ross Cullum, revealed how he learned about his character’s fate on General Hospital. He said he saw preparations for Cullum’s death scene, but was informed a week later by Frank Valentini. He expressed his thoughts during the final scene, while adding that he also took a moment to thank the executive producer for the opportunity.

General Hospital’s Andrew Hawkes found out Cullum was dead before anyone told him

In a recent conversation with Soap Opera Digest, Hawkes mentioned that he was summoned for suit-fitting, where he came across the making of squibs (pouches of fake red liquid). The preparation was being done for his final sequence, which sees a wounded Josslyn pulling the trigger on Cullum and ending his story.

He added, “About a week later, I still hadn’t heard the official word,” he recalls. “And then Frank Valentini, our executive producer, said to me, ‘You know what’s going on, right?’ And I said, ‘Yeah,’ and he said, ‘It’s happening on the 18th of May.’ That was my last day.”

He revealed that during the scene when he gets shot, he felt a “sense of relief.” He said that after taking the bullet, he lay dead on the floor and almost fell asleep. “And my mind kept thinking about all the people at the show who made this whole experience for me… I was kind of just going through everyone, and I was probably radiating a little love,” he elaborated.

Hawkes stated that after they were done with filming, he went to Valentini and asked him for a few minutes to talk to thank him for the opportunity and experience. He reflected on how the show could have opted for any actor with a big name, but he was incredibly grateful that they chose him instead. “It was such a huge learning experience with incredible people. I made wonderful friends and just had a wonderful time, and I let Frank know that,” he continued. The 60-year-old said that Valentini was “sweet” to him as he always has and appreciated his work.
