Ryan Paevey has wrapped up his latest General Hospital run. His character, Cassius Faison, was believed dead after last week’s violent shootout that also killed Ross Cullum. However, his exit may not be the end. The July 6 episode left Cassius’ future surprisingly open, giving fans hope he could return.
What happened to Cassius, and will Ryan Peaevey return to General Hospital?
Last week, Cassius Faison suffered a shocking fate on General Hospital. He went to Wyndemere to save Carly and stop Ross Cullum from escaping with the cold fusion reactor. A fight broke out at Spoon Island, where Cullum admitted he planned to blame everything on Cassius and Sidwell.
He then shot Cassius in the chest, leaving him motionless. Although Cassius appeared to die, neither the show nor Ryan Paevey has officially confirmed his death. In the final moments, an injured Josslyn shot and killed Cullum, bringing the dangerous showdown to an end.
In a surprising twist, Cassius actually survived the gunfight. Instead of dying, he shared one final scene with WSB leader Z, played by John Oliver. During their conversation, Z offered Cassius a new job, leaving his future completely open.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with TV Insider, executive producer Frank Valentini confirmed that Paevey’s return was always meant to be temporary. He said, “Ryan’s return was always planned as a short-term arc. He did incredible work, and we loved having him back.”
In September 2025, Ryan Paevey first returned to the show. He had said he never wanted a long-term contract. Instead, he preferred a fresh storyline over simply bringing Nathan West back from the dead. Instead, the writers introduced Nathan’s previously unknown twin brother, Cassius. That creative twist convinced Paevey to return.
Paevey also enjoyed playing someone very different from Nathan. “This character is not the strait-laced nice guy, which opens up a whole new slew of activities and things to play with, which sounded like a lot more fun.”
For now, Cassius has officially left Port Charles. Still, because he survived and accepted Z’s offer, General Hospital has left the door wide open for Ryan Paevey to return in the future.
